Conor McGregor sure knows how to surprise millions of fans over social media.
The world-famous fighter announced his retirement -- again -- in June, which left several fans surprised by the move, but likely left even more fans feeling skeptical.
But his latest announcement on social media didn't leave anyone doubting its validity. That's because the 32-year-old brawler announced his engagement to his girlfriend of over 10 years, Dee Devlin, in a touching post.
Perhaps it was this decision that caused him to reconsider his fighting career and retire for real, though we're aware that not everyone's sold. Yahoo! Sports' Kevin Iole, for one, called the retirement "a joke" in an appearance on The Jim Rome Show on CBS Sports Radio (video above).
However, his engagement gives us reason to think he's legitimately thinking about settling down... at least for a little while. UFC president Dana White guaranteed that McGregor wouldn't fight this year, but left the door open in the future (via John Morgan of USA Today).
“I’m not saying he won’t fight in 2021, but I’m telling you we don’t have a fight planned for him in 2021,” White said on an episode of “My Mom’s Basement.” "But I guarantee you he will not fight in 2020. Conor McGregor is retired."
Thus, his fighting career isn't necessarily stable or set in stone, but it seems as though his relationship with Devlin is as strong as ever.
"My girlfriend worked very hard throughout the years and stuck by me when I had essentially absolutely nothing," McGregor said (via Martin Domin of The Daily Mirror). "For me to be able to take her out of work, give her everything she's ever wanted and to travel the world with her fills me with pride. It keeps me going."
Several fighters, including UFC's Holly Holm and WWE's Sheamus, commented on the post and wished the couple the best.
