UFC's Colby Covington Calls Black Lives Matter a 'Sham,' Says Tyron Woodley 'Hates America'

Colby Covington defeated Tyron Woodley at UFC Las Vegas 11 on Saturday night, but it was comments and events following the match the drew the most attention.

Covington, an avid supporter of President Donald Trump, called Woodley – who is Black – a “domestic terrorist” in a social media post earlier in the week. When asked about that after the fight, Covington doubled down on his remarks and ripped Black Lives Matter as a “sham” with politically charged comments.

“He is standing up for lifelong criminals. Black Lives Matter is a complete sham. It’s a joke,” Covington said. “They’re taking these people -- they’re complete terrorists. They’re taking these people that are criminals. These aren’t people that aren’t hard-working Americans, blue-collar Americans. These are bad people. They are criminals. They shouldn’t be attacking police.

“If you’re breaking the law and threatening cops with weapons you deserve to get what you get. So, the law enforcement protects us all. If we don’t have law enforcement it would be the wild, wild west. People need to go give a pat on the back to law enforcement every single day and thank them for keeping us safe. Otherwise, all these criminals would be running the streets wild and none of us would be safe.”

Covington added that Woodley “hates America” in a follow-up question and also took a shot at NBA star LeBron James.

“[Woodley] doesn’t stand for the rights of America … He wants to defund the police,” Covington said. “These are the same police who give him private security to him and his family daily. Now you want to vilify them and put targets on their back like LeBron James? These guys are heroes man, we need to give a shout to law enforcement and stop trying to vilify them.”

Covington, who appeared at his postgame press conference with a red “Keep America Great” hat on also received a call from Trump during the presser to congratulate him.

“Thank you Mr. President. You gave me the dragon energy when you shook my hand Sunday at your rally,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if King Kong was in front of me, I was not going to lose after shaking your hand.”
