Geoff Calkins is the lead sports columnist for The Commercial Appeal and -- after 17 years of entertaining and challenging Memphians in print, on the radio and on TV -- a fixture in the Memphis community. He's been named best sports columnist in the country three times. He's won five Green Eyeshade awards as the best sports columnist in the South.
He's a perennial winner in The Memphis Flyer's best columnist category and was named best sports television personality by Memphis Sport Magazine for his work on WKNO-TV. Not bad for a guy who graduated from Harvard and Harvard Law School and then decided the legal business was not for him. Calkins is not a newcomer to 92.9, having been a part of an afternoon show with Gary Parrish for four years. He's continuing to contribute to that show, including the world-famous Harvard-Horn Lake Trivia segment. Calkins has three boys (ages 16, 13 and 11) and two large, shaggy Bernese Mountain Dogs.
