Lions fans donate to Deshaun Watson Foundation following Matt Patricia firing

Tis the season to be giving, but it’s not the holiday spirit that has Lions fans feeling generous.

Instead, they are pouring in donations into Deshaun Watson’s charity as a token of thanks for delivering the final blow of the Matt Patricia era, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn were relieved of their duties on Saturday, just two days after Watson shredded the Detroit defense for 318 yards and four touchdown passes in a 41-25 Thanksgiving Day victory.

Donations to the Deshaun Watson Foundation totaled $1,070 as of Sunday morning. Many fans donated $13, which represented the amount of games Patricia won in his nearly three years as head coach.

To make this gesture even better, Watson plans to match the donation and will provide the first 100 donations with a free lunch at Lefty’s in Detroit – a casual dining franchise in which Watson holds a large equity stake in – in his own effort to thank the generous fans.

According to the website of the Deshaun Watson Foundation, it is dedicated to “education, health, housing and other charitable causes that support families and youth in underserved communities.”
