Matt Patricia will be returning to New England.

According to Jim McBride of The Boston Globe, the former Patriots defensive coordinator is returning to the Patriots and "will assist the Patriots coaching staff in a variety of roles."

Patricia was fired by the Lions during this past season. He came their head coach in 2018. He was with the Patriots from 2004-17 working in a variety of coaching roles, including defensive coordinator from 2012-17.

It's unclear exactly what Patricia's role will be, but it does seem like he will not be calling the defensive plays like he once did.

In addition, Evan Rothstein will join the staff. In Detroit he was the team's head coach assistant/research and analysis, which feels like an Ernie Adams type role.
