Report: Falcons Releasing RB Devonta Freeman

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Atlanta Falcons are releasing running back Devonta Freeman.

The #Falcons are releasing RB Devonta Freeman, source says, saving more than $3M against the salary cap and moving on from their former starter.

The move would clear $3 million against the cap. If the Falcons make Freeman a post-Jun 1 cut, they could clear an additional $3 million in cap space.

Freeman signed a five-year, $41.25 million contract with the Falcons before the start of the 2017 season.

As a fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Freeman has played in 77 games for the Falcons, starting 59 of them. He's totaled 3,972 rush yards, 2,015 receiving yards for 43 touchdowns in his career with the Falcons.

The Falcons also announced they have released offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo clearing $3.7 million in cap space.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero also reports the the Falcons plan to release cornerback Desmond Trufant.
