Will the Atlanta Braves sign a Veteran starting pitcher in the offseason?

Atlanta Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos joined Dukes & Bell to talk about how this offseason will work out with the ramifications from the pandemic, does the team want to add a veteran starter in the offseason, is Christian Pache here to stay, plus will the team be in the market to resign Marcell Ozuna?

Anthopoulos talked about if the team is looking to add a veteran starting pitcher to the rotation this offseason.

“Yes we definitely would like to do that, if it could be done.” Anthopoulos said “Things worked out for us, we had a lot of opportunities, I can tell you Bryse Wilson was a name that was asked about a lot at the trade deadline, he’s a controllable young starter, he’s a strike thrower, he wasn’t performing well for us that’s the type of guy you should be asking for. You think are they ready to quit on him now, am I buying low? I’m glad we stuck with him, some of the trade offers that were there they would have been guys on paper that would have helped us, but they would have been free agents at the end of the year or would have a year of control and that would have been the end of it. Any trade we would have made for a rental would have been for someone where we say we’re getting this guy to make a playoff start for us and help us and it worked out that Bryse was awesome. Anybody that we would have gotten at the playoff deadline we would have loved for them to do what Bryse Wilson did in the NLCS.”

“You still want to have that depth and if we could add another starter that’s something we would like to do.”
