Braves a World Series contender with 'underdog mentality'

92.9 The Game’s Braves Insider, Joe Patrick, joined Sam & Greg on Sunday morning. Sam asked Joe, was there ever a year in recent history that he felt so comfortable about the Braves roster from top to bottom. Patrick’s short answer to that question: a resounding no.

Patrick thinks this team is interesting because they have an “underdog mentality” but feed off of it because nobody expected them to end where they did. Last season, they had plenty of injuries, including a major injury to pitcher Mike Soroka. Yet they were able to take the Dodgers to Game 7 in the NLCS. Patrick feels that the strength of the roster creates an interesting dynamic, making the Braves one of the top three teams favored to come out of the National League and a World Series favorite. The other two teams being the Padres and the Dodgers.

What makes Patrick really happy is the signing of Marcel Ozuna, who the Braves signed for four years and for $65M. He thinks that there was a big hole in the Braves outfield and that signing Ozuna eases the minds of Braves fans everywhere. There is a feeling that this will give the Braves a different edge when they take the field.
