DJ Shockley expects Dwan Mathis to start for UGA

Since Jamie Newman opted out of the college football season due to COVID concerns, the question in Athens has been, 'who will start at quarterback for the Bulldogs'?

Former 5 star quarterback and Southern Cal transfer JT Daniels saw a potential opening in the quarterback room at Georgia and transferred in May. Daniels has been practicing with the team, however, Daniels is still recovering from a knee injury he sustained in 2019 and hasn't been cleared for full contact yet.

That leaves freshman Dwan Mathis, true freshman Carson Beck, and last year's backup quarterback Stetson Bennett as potential starters against Arkansas on September 26th.

Former Georgia quarterback DJ Shockley told 92.9 The Game host Will Palaszczuk that he thinks Kirby Smart will start Dwan Mathis, because, 'he gives Georgia the biggest threat at QB.'

"Todd Monken wants to be an Air Raid style of offense, they want to spread you out, use that zone read, and this is where his (Monken) offense wanted to go", Shockley told Palaszczuk.
