Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer joined some impressive company on Sunday afternoon.

The Nationals ace struck out at least 10 batters for the 98th time in his career, passing Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax for fifth all time among pitchers with 10-plus strikeouts in a game.

Nolan Ryan leads the list with 215, followed by Randy Johnson at 212, Roger Clemens at 110 and Pedro Martinez at 108.

While Ryan and Johnson are highly unlikely to be caught, Scherzer could very well still catch Martinez and Clemens.

Scherzer, a future Hall of Famer himself, achieved the feat in the fifth inning of Sunday’s game against the Braves, and it was the fifth time this season he struck out 10.

Despite the historic feat, Scherzer was still tagged for six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings pitched, with things unraveling in the sixth inning when the Braves scored four of those runs.
