PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- It's never a bad time to talk some Steelers.
Even in a pandemic. Even with a season being played in question. Even in June of said offseason.
Who has the better chance at being a Pittsburgh Steeler beyond their final year of their contract in 2020? Bud Dupree or JuJu Smith-Schuster?
"I think Bud Dupree because they value that position more. I hate to say but a lot of people do believe receivers are a dime a dozen now. Pass rushers are not a dime a dozen. So I would think Bud has a better chance. They won't franchise [tag] JuJu, there's a good chance they could franchise Bud another year."
"It's more about economics and what they have behind him (Smith-Schuster). He had two great years. One really great year and one really good year as a rookie and his best year was his second year and Antonio Brown was on the other side both of those years. I don't think you can put anything into last year for offense without Ben and he was hurt on top of it. So I don't know, maybe throw that out. I really don't think they're going to give him a contract before the start of this season so here we go. Let's see what he does and it doesn't mean they won't sign him after the year."
Ed also discussed another looming contract situation, that being with Cam Heyward who is still seeking an extension to his contract that runs out after the 2020 season.
"You have to pay him. Pay him the going rate and figure it out. They've been pretty good at doing that. Not too many players in their prime, and Cam even though he's 31 years old is in his prime, do they let go. It just doesn't happen.
You saw how hard they tried to keep Le'Veon Bell despite all the problems. I think Cam will get it."
