(93.7 The Fan) - The Big Ten basketball Tournament has been canceled due to fears of the COVID-19 virus.
In a statement the Big Ten says they will, “use this time to work with the appropriate medical experts and institutional leadership to determine next steps for moving forward in regard to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The conference adds, “The main priority of the Big Ten Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus.”
Number 8 seed Penn State was scheduled to take on Indiana Thursday evening at 8:55 p.m. =
In addition the Atlantic 10’s tournament in Brooklyn has been canceled.
Duquesne was scheduled to play Fordham Thursday evening, as they attempted to reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1977.
The ACC Tournament that tipped off on Tuesday has also been canceled.
Pitt Lost to NC State 73-58 on Wednesday ending their tournament bid.
In addition to the Big Ten, The SEC, Big 12 and American Athletic Conference have also canceled their tournaments.
