PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) It’s been a long wait for Pirates Manager Derek Shelton to manage his first professional game that counts…and now the countdown is down to two days.

Shelton joined the Cook and Joe Show, as he will every Wednesday at Noon throughout the season, and he told the guys that he is excited and the excitement grows the closer we get to the start of the season.

That will be Friday night in St. Louis where the Pirates will begin their 60 game season and Shelton’s first as a Manger of record.

Shelton told the guys that he was not a good player, but players don’t care about that.

Players usually don’t care about what you did in your playing career, but how you can help them get better.

He is working on that now and the Pirates player s are responding welt o him and are ready to go and play.

Shelton tells the guys that this is a 60 game sprint and a “real dog fight” and that it’s wide open for anyone who can get off to a good start and get hot.

He hopes he can get that first win on Friday and many more to follow.
