Joe Haden Hurt at Steelers Practice

LATROBE (93.7 the Fan) – It set off alarms on social media, but it appears an injury to starting corner Joe Haden is only minor.

Steelers dot com reported that Haden was carted off the field after being injured going through a drill at St. Vincent College on Wednesday, but NFL Network reports it’s only a minor ankle injury that happened after his foot was stepped on.

The Steelers said in a statement that Haden is being evaluated for an injury and it will be addressed after Friday’s game.

The 30-year-old is in the final year of his contract, has been talking to the team about an extension and lauded by Steelers coaches not only for his impact on the field, but for his work with younger players as well.

Boswell Perfect

In the morning head coach Mike Tomlin said incumbent Chris Boswell will alternate kicks with rookie Matthew Wright during the preseason opener on Friday.  In the afternoon Boswell went 7 for 7 on kicks including a 51 and 52 yarder.  Boswell also kicked a 45-yarder during a two-minute drill as he has missed one kick all camp.  Wright missed a pair of kicks today.

7 Shots

Steelers first round pick Devin Bush was beat three times for touchdowns during the team’s 7 shots period.  Ben Roethlisberger hit JuJu Smith-Schuster, Vance McDonald and Jaylen Samuels for short touchdowns.

Mason Rudolph connected with Diontae Spencer for a touchdown during the same drill, but was also intercepted by free agent safety Kameron Kelly, in what would have been a pick 6.

Steelers hold closed walk-throughs at St. Vincent College on Thursday before opening the preseason Friday at Heinz Field against Tampa Bay.  You can watch the game on KDKA-TV with Bob Pompeani, Charlie Batch, Rich Walsh and Missi Matthews on the call.
