PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)-We are getting closer and closer to having baseball to watch even if it’s not in the ballpark but on TV and Pirates Manager Derek Shelton tells Ron Cook on the Cook and Joe Show that he is excited to be back to playing baseball and he wishes the fans could be there but it will be good just to have something to watch.
Shelton says he is happy with his group for the wat they came to spring training 2.0 in good shape and ready to follow the protocols and gear up for the regular season/
The Pirates will host the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night for an exhibition game before traveling to Cleveland on Monday and finishing up the exhibition games at home on Wednesday night.
Joe Musgrove according to Shelton has looked sharp and is slated to pitch 6 innings on Saturday night but he Is not ready to name him or any Opening Day starter just yet.
He says they are getting closer to making final decision s on the rotation but they have a pretty good idea of what they will have going out there the first 3 games in St. Louis when the regular season opens next Friday July 24th.
Keone kela who Shelton projected early on would be the closer has yet to be with the club. He is not ready to rule him out for the start of the season but admits there are options and no decisions will be made until they need to be made so for now it’s a wait and see.
