BRADENTON (93.7 The FAN) - It's not being the Opening Day starter for the first game of the season, but Mitch Keller has been tabbed as the first Pirates pitcher to take the mound when they open their spring training season this Saturday against the Minnesota Twins.

Derek Shelton made the announcement following today's workouts.

"Keller is going to start, so that'll be fun," Shelton said.  "It will be nice to get him out there."

Keller reacted to the news in very Mitch Keller like fashion.  "It's cool, I guess.  It's just another game to get us going here in spring and hoping to get a good start and a good start to the year."

Keller expects to go between 1 and 2 innings depending on how the first inning goes.

As for how he feels so far this spring and getting ready to make his spring debut this year.

"I felt really good so far through spring.  Way better than I had last year, so I'm really excited for this first game to just see where I'm at."
