PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Pirates rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Miami Marlins 6-5 Wednesday night at PNC Park.
Elias Diaz led off the inning with an opposite field home run to right center, Kevin Kramer walked, Adam Frazier doubled and Bryan Reynolds walked it off with a 2-RBI single to left field that scored Frazier and Erik Gonzalez (who pinch ran for Kramer).
The score would remain tied at one until the fourth inning when the Pirates would take the lead on an RBI triple by Adam Frazier that brought home Jacob Stallings.
After an error by Bell in the top of the fifth, the Marlins would take a 3-2 lead on a 2-run home run by Starlin Castro.
Pirates Starting Pitcher Trevor Williams would be pinch hit for in the bottom of the 6th after another quality start and has started to look the pitcher from the last season and the beginning of this season before the injury over his last three starts.
"We were able to do what we've been working on, there's only a finite amount of starts left," said Williams. "We're going to make them all count, we're going to make sure that we go into next year and the off-season going up. We've made great strides with my delivery, repeating it and tonight was no exception. I thought we did a great job executing pitches at the bottom of the zone, at the top of the zone and I look forward to doing this again in five days."
The Marlins would take the lead right back in the top of the seventh inning when Cooper hit a 2-run home run off of Kyle Crick and Miami would hold the 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth before Reynolds brought home the game winning runs for the Pirates in the bottom of the 9th.
The Pirates close out the three game series with the Marlins Thursday night at 7:05 pm as they send Dario Agrazal (4-3, 4.50 ERA) to the mound against Elieser Hernandez (3-5, 5.06 ERA) and Miami at PNC Park.
