PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes was voted the National League Rookie of the Month for September.
Hayes hit .376 with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs and 11 RBI in the 24 games since being recalled on September 1st. He finished the season with an eight-game hitting streak and collected eight straight hits over his final three games, being the first Pirates to do that since Andy Van Slyke in 1994.
Out of all the MLB players with at least 75 plate appearances in September, Hayes ranked fourth with a 1.124 OPS and sixth with a .442 OBP.
This is the first monthly award for Hayes and is the first Pirate to be named NL Rookie of the Months since Austin Meadows in May 2018 and the first Pirates third basemen to win the award since Pedro Alvarez in September 2010.
