While the Pirates didn’t make any moves during Monday’s MLB trade deadline, one deal reportedly came close but ultimately fell through.
According to MLB insider Robert Murray, the Toronto Blue Jays were close to acquiring right hander Joe Musgrove.
“The deal fell apart at the eleventh hour, according to sources with direct knowledge,” said Murray.
Toronto ended up trading for Arizona Diamondbacks left handed pitcher Robbie Ray. They also got $300,000 in exchange for left handed pitcher Travis Bergen.
The Jays also acquired righty Ross Stripling from the Los Angeles Dodgers for two players to be named later.
Musgrove is currently out with right triceps inflammation.
He has a 6.75 ERA over three starts and is under club control through 2022.
