Reports: Big Ten Could Start Season Around Thanksgiving

The conference is apparently discussing multiple start dates

According to multiple sources Big Ten coaches and athletic directors are talking about the possibility of starting the football season around Thanksgiving.

Yahoo’s Pete Thamel says talks are early in the process and that multiple start dates are being proposed.

New Year’s Day, mid-January and after the Super Bowl are all also possible options.

Thamel adds that if the Big Ten starts around Thanksgiving it will give the conference the possibility of having 10 games plus one, “as opposed to 8 games plus one later in January.”

College presidents and TV partners would likely have a big say in what happens moving forward.

Several coaches have reportedly pushed to have the season start as originally scheduled but that is not expected.
