PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) The Riverhounds SC is set to join the USL Academy League starting in the Spring of 2021 and play in the East-Central Division.

The Riverhound Development Academy (RDA) players ages 15-19 will be eligible to play with the squad and compete to join a USL team in the future.

“We are delighted to be a part of the USL Academy League starting in 2021,” Academy Director Scott Gibson said. “As a program, we are continuously working to improve the opportunities afforded to our players and the USL Academy League will certainly add increased value to our overall developmental structure. This will be an added opportunity for the top performing boys in the program and will complement our Boys ECNL schedule.”

Joining the Riverhounds in the East-Central Division are the Cleveland Force SC, Flint City Bucks, Grand Rapids FC, Indy Eleven, and Louisville City FC.

The launch of the USL Academy League will help all teams in the USL identify top prospects and give younger athletes a better opportunity to play with and against professionals.
