Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is teaming up with the nation’s leading infectious disease expert yet again, six months removed from their first informative discussion about COVID-19 during the early days of the pandemic.

The first was back in March, when Curry introduced Dr. Anthony Fauci to his 31 million Instagram followers.

Tuesday’s discussion centered on "what we’ve gotten right and what we’ve gotten wrong" about COVID-19. The two also took time to talk hoops, as Curry opened the 30-minute conversation with a lighter question about Dr. Fauci’s rumored prowess as a point guard.

"The kind of jump shots that you guys put up now, very few people were doing that back then," said Dr. Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. "It was not that kind of game."

Dr. Fauci also stressed the importance of his personal sports experience, teamwork and what he’s carried into his professional career.

"It has played a major influence, Steph, no doubt, in so many ways" he said. "Everything from the fact that as good as you might be or think you are, the fact is you’re part of a team and if you can shine, but you don’t get a good result and win the game, it’s almost like being a hotshot investigator but you never do anything that’s really worthwhile because you don’t do it in a collaborative way."

Curry also poked fun at Dr. Fauci’s errant first pitch at a Washington Nationals game.

Of course, COVID-19 was the main topic of conversation, as Curry praised Dr. Fauci's honesty and approach during the coronavirus pandemic.

"You’ve got to always be speaking the truth and not be telling people what they want to hear," Dr. Fauci explained. "It’s tempting to go to the other side, particularly when you’re dealing with very powerful people, including the president of the United States."

Dr. Fauci has advised six different administrations over the course of his career.

The conversation is part of Curry’s "State Of Inspiration" web series.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and former Georgia gubernatorial candidate-turned-voting advocate Stacy Abrams were previous guests.
