It looks like rapper Nelly is going to be making his way back onto the big screen after his incredible run on this year’s Dancing with the Stars.

The St. Louis native is set to play the role of fellow Missourian and the “Father of Rock and Roll,” Chuck Berry, in an upcoming biopic about the life of iconic musician Buddy Holly.

The title, Clear Lake, refers to the town of Clear Lake, Iowa, which was the site of the infamous plane crash that took the lives of singers Holly, Richie Valens, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson on February 3, 1959 – also known as “the day the music died.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will be directed by Bruce Beresford of Driving Miss Daisy fame and also features Ruairi O’Connor as Buddy Holly, Colin Hanks as Holly’s manager Norman Petty, and Orange Is the New Black‘s Diane Guerrero as Holly’s wife, Maria.

While Chuck Berry, who passed in 2017 at the age of 90, was not involved in the devastating crash, Nelly’s portrayal of the icon will likely be based around his interactions with Holly, his part in the birth of Rock n' Roll in the 1950s, as well as the emerging Civil Rights movement.

Nelly’s last foray into acting was 2014’s Reach Me. Prior to that he had a recurring role on CSI: NY in 2008-09, and is best remembered for his role in the 2005 Adam Sandler flick, The Longest Yard.

The rapper is set to take the stage at the 2020 American Music Awards, throwing it back alongside Bell Biv DeVoe on Sunday, November 22. Plus, be sure to catch Nelly on the DWTS finale airing Monday, November 23 – both on ABC.
