Most assume if the Eagles dip into the college game for their next head coach it will be for Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley.
Not so fast.
According to an CBS Sports report, one “hot name” name making it’s way around the NFL coaching carousel is Cincinnati Head Coach Luke Fickell, and Fickell’s name is being “tied” to the Eagles.
Fickell, 47-years old, coached on the defensive side of the ball at Ohio State from 2002-2016 before taking over at Cincinnati as the head coach in 2017. He has an overall record of 41-21, going 2-2 in bowl games. He won the AAC in 2020, and has twice been named the AAC Coach of the year (2018 and 2020).
The job that Fickell did turning around Cincinnati is likely why the Eagles are being tied to the head coach, as he took a 4-8 in 2016 and turned them into a 11-2 team in just two seasons.
Still, as impressive as Fickell might be, the Eagles heading into the coaching game to hire a defensive head coach would certainly be an inspiring decision — and wouldn’t fix their issues on the offensive side of the ball.
So far the Eagles have now been tied to candidates -- and you can check out the full list here.
