The 49ers announced that they are shutting down Jerick McKinnon for two weeks. The running back, who missed all of last season, is dealing with soreness in his surgically-repaired knee.

McKinnon tore his ACL ahead of Week 1 last year and just made his return to the field a couple days ago.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said it's possible that McKinnon could be an IR designated to return canidate.

Next up for McKinnon will be a platelet rich plasma injection. While the 49ers are still holding out for a Week 1 return, in the interim, Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida are the top running backs.
