A few hours before Kyle Shanahan took the podium for his Zoom press conference on Monday afternoon and said he's hoping to have Jimmy Garoppolo in the fold for the upcoming meeting with the Rams, Jerry Rice weighed in on the 49ers' QB situation.
Rice expects to see C.J. Beathard get the start when the 49ers host the Rams on Sunday in Santa Clara, the Hall of Famer said on The Morning Roast with Bonta Hill, Kate Scott and Joe Shasky.
Rice's prognostication may prove incorrect, as Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that Garoppolo was slated to be back on the practice field, full go, on Wednesday afternoon.
Beathard had replaced Garoppolo to start the second half of the 43-17 loss to the Dolphins.
After pulling the plug on Garoppolo against the Dolphins, head coach Kyle Shanahan told the Fox broadcast that he was hooking the starter to protect him in his first game back from a high-ankle sprain.
Beathard was 9-for-18 for 94 yards and a touchdown in relief of Garoppolo, who was 7-for-17 for 77 with a pair of interceptions.
