NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The Coyote Ugly bar, made famous by the 2000 film of the same name starring Piper Perabo, Tyra Banks and Maria Bello, is closing after nearly 28 years in business because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The bar’s owner and founder Liliana Lovell posted a video to YouTube over the weekend announcing the closure of the Manhattan bar, known for its dancing bartenders.
“After sitting closed for six months due to COVID restrictions, we simply can’t afford to pay the rent," Lovell said.
Dozens of bars and restaurants across NYC have closed for good amid the pandemic and related restrictions.
At the end of the video, Lovell suggested that there might be another bar in the future, making a toast “to the next Coyote Ugly New York City.”
“It’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be nicer, a little bit nicer. And it’s going to have better bathrooms,” she said.
