ST. LOUIS (KFTK) - St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson will retire from politics in April and not seek reelection. She made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon.
Krewson, 67, has served as mayor since 2017 and was an Alderwoman before that.
"I love St. Louis. I'll always put it first. I’m proud of what we accomplished, but elections are about the future," Krewson says. "And I know that in St. Louis we have the talent and the heart to build a better St. Louis."
She mentioned the rises number of COVID-19 cases in the region, "heart-breaking gun violence" and the economy as things she will focus on in her final months in office.
Among those who have announced that they are running for mayor in 2021 are city treasurer Tishaura Jones and Alderwoman Cara Spencer.

This coming Monday is the deadline day for those to file their candidacy for the Primary Municipal Election in the City of St. Louis. The general election is coming in April 2021.
