Trakas says effort to stop Page wouldn’t hold up legally

By 97.1 FM Talk

Some St. Louis County residents are frustrated after two bills were voted down that would allow the council more oversight on orders issued by county executive Sam Page.

Councilmember Ernie Trakas (Dist. 6) was a “no” vote on both bills.

Trakas joins the show to explain his decision.

He says that, although Page’s power should be checked, there were issues with the bills that would have caused them to be challenged and ultimately overturned. He says he’d like to correct the legal issues and put them up for another vote.

Rene Artman, chair of the Republican Central Committee of St Louis County, disagrees with Trakas’ assessment and says this would have been a step in the right direction.
