New York Times best-selling author James Rickards joined Randy Tobler to promote his new book, The New Great Depression: Winners and Losers in a Post-Pandemic World.
Rickards told Randy that his publisher expected a large amount of interest in the book amid the Covid-19 pandemic, saying, "Jim, we want a book on this. We want it ASAP," suggesting though that he steer away from the medical side and only focus on the economic impact.
"I said, 'look, that's impossible. It's like asking me to write about property damage in New Orleans in 2005, and not mention hurricane Katrina! You can't understand the economy without understanding the pandemic," Rickards joked.
The book records the history of the discovery of the virus in China in 2019, followed by the lockdowns, which Rickards calls the "bridge from the virus to the economy." Then the book includes a chapter on what he calls 'The New Great Depression as well as the mental health aspect of the pandemic and predictions for investors and forecasts for the economy.
