ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Jayden Groves, 11, was honored on Thursday by the St. Louis Fire Department for his heroism in saving the life of his 22-month-old brother.
In August, his extended family gathered in Hyde Park and Groves had noticed that his little brother was missing. He says he knew his brother loved to play in the water, so his first instinct was to check the pond.
"I saw my brother laying face down, floating," Groves explains. "I got him and I grabbed him out ... It was like three feet. I put one foot in and I grabbed him out."
He got the attention of some adults, who then performed CPR and then Groves ran to the St. Louis Fire Department station that was located in a corner of the park. First responders came and took his brother to the hospital where he made a full recovery.
On Thursday, Groves was given the St. Louis Fire Department’s Heroism Award.
