Allen Park, Mich.— The Detroit Lions announced today that they have activated S Jayron Kearse from the Exempt/Commissioner Permission list and released RB Ty Johnson.
Johnson was drafted by the Lions in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Last season he rushed for 273 yards on 63 carries and added 109 receiving yards.
Kearse signed a one-year, $2.75 million deal with Detroit in March after spending the previous four seasons with the Vikings. He had been suspended for three games due to a violation of the NFL’s policy on substance abuse.
He was arrested last October in Minneapolis for driving while impaired and illegal possession of a firearm. The NFL mandates a three-game suspension for driving under the influence of alcohol.
