In light of the debut of Ariana Grande’s scientifically seductive music video for “34+35,” we are taking a look back at every Ari video ever released. There’s just something so good about watching the evolution of this global superstar and seeing AG through every phase of her expansive career. From black bunny ears to Mean Girls references, one thing has held true, Grande is one fierce pop luminary who lets nothing stand in the way of her and her iron-clad ponytail.

Check out every phase of Ariana from 2011 to present day.

1 Put Your Hearts Up

The 2011 track is the first taste we get of AG as she delves into her solo career. Since “Put Your Hearts Up” Grande has come a long way. Aside from the red hair sans ponytail, Grande has developed a maturity that heavily underscores her sound, her lyrics, and her style.

2 The Way featuring Mac Miller

The video which features Mac Miller comes off of Grande’s debut album, Yours Truly. This is one of the first visual pieces that marks Ari’s use of relationship ups and downs as a topic for her songs and visual accompaniments. Although Miller and Grande were not dating at this time, their professional relationship was already in full swing. Ponytail watch: We have not entered the full-fledge era of the great pony quite yet, but in this video, Grande is halfway there as she sports a half ponytail throughout the video.

3 Popular Song featuring MIKA

Oh my god, Ariana Grande rocking a light goth motif alongside MIKA, while referencing Wicked is the chaotic 2013 energy we live for. This feels like a relic alongside the sleek and sophisticated Grande we know today. Also hard to imagine that the woman behind the badassery of thank u, next was overlooked at school and getting swirlies in the bathroom.

4 Almost Is Never Enough featuring Nathan Sykes

At this point, we knew Ari could sing, but this paired down, emotionally charged video puts Grande’s vocals at the forefront and we start to hear the faint sounds of AG’s famed whistle tones.

5 Baby I

Clad in the once highly sought after American Apparel look, Ari gives us something fun, flirty, and heavily dance-able with “Baby I” which comes off of Yours Truly.

6 Right There featuring Big Sean

With whistle tones hitting right off the bat and a masquerade ball used as a vehicle to tell the story behind “Right There,” this video not only marks the historic personal and professional Grande and Big Sean relationship but also marks a maturing Ari. Ponytail watch: We are still in the half pony era.

7 Problem featuring Iggy Azalea

Finally! “Problem” ushers in the infallible and famed Ariana ponytail. The historic moment also shows off a grown Grande, that lets us know she’s definitely not one to mess with. The mod video hints at the idea that Grande was beginning to explore more sexual undertones and features a shirtless Big Sean, who Grande was still dating at the time. Iggy Azalea’s Barbarella-inspired presence amps up the entire video and makes Grande’s foray into 2014 with her sophomore studio album, My Everything, pretty explosive.

8 Break Free featuring Zedd

Alien Grande is everything. The EDM-infused bop takes Grande’s idea of sex appeal meets camp to intergalactic new heights in an incredibly high-concept visual piece.

9 Bang Bang featuring Jessie J and Nicki Minaj

We forgot that Ari, Jessie J, and Nicki Minaj invented girl power. Also, this is the first time that Grande and Minaj work together and we’ve never been so grateful for the line “it’s me, Jessie, and Ari.” This music video pre-dates the greatness that is to come from Ariana and Nicki in the “Side to Side” music video. Ponytail watch: we have achieved full high-pony greatness at this point.

10 Love Me Harder featuring The Weeknd

The romantic video collaboration between Ariana and The Weeknd almost feels like the opening act in a long, emotional saga of songs sung by the two stars. If we look at this video in the context of the duo’s 2020 collab on “off the table” we get a full picture of Ariana’s relationship triumphs and trials.

11 Santa Tell Me

The iconic, sweet, and cozy, holiday music video where Ari trades in her cat ears for reindeer antlers.

12 One Last Time

The apocalyptic music video is one of Grande’s darker music videos and definitely seems heavier in the context of 2020. In 2017, after the horrific bombing that occurred during her Manchester show, Grande re-released “One Last Time” as a charity single that directly supported the “We Love Manchester” emergency fund that was set up after the terrorist attack.

13 E Più Ti Penso - Andrea Bocelli and Ariana Grande

The simple and stunning, operatic music video is purely meant to showcase the harmony that both Bocelli and Grande achieve as their voices intertwine. The song comes off Bocelli’s 2015 album Cinema.

14 Focus

Pastels, star-spangled knee-high boots, and show-stopping choreography achieve exactly what Ari wants us to do: focus on her. The energy in this video is preparation for what we’re about to be served in the Dangerous Woman generation.

15 Dangerous Woman

The intimate video, featuring Ariana starkly on her own is the absolute turning point in her career, where AG goes from bubblegum to boudoir. Welcome to the age of PVC bunny ears.

16 Let Me Love You featuring Lil Wayne

Essentially the Dangerous Woman timeframe can be summed up by very personal close-up shots of Grande’s perfectly painted winged eyeliner and panning shots across the pop star’s body. The “Let Me Love You” video gives us exactly that, with the addition of Lil Wayne smoking a blunt. “Ariana my Lil mama, goodbye to the good girl” is the only lyric you need to know from now on.

17 Into You

With California’s Mojave desert landscape serving as the backdrop of this video and AG’s fringed biker jacket flowing, Ariana gives us some Coachella Valley realness as she belts out “A little bit dangerous, but baby, that's how I want it.” Desert sand and hole-in-the-wall motels are no match for this power ballad and Grande’s stiletto boots.

18 Side to Side featuring Nicki Minaj

Leave it to Ariana and Nicki Minaj to make cycling the hottest thing ever. This video is our favorite AG innuendo ever. Ponytail watch: Throughout the piece, AG is rocking her signature high pony underneath a baseball cap that reads “ICON.”

19 Everyday featuring Future

How is it that Ariana makes the most mundane locations the sexiest? Grande partners with Future to drop a video where people are getting it on in laundromats, offices, and the hoods of cars. The whole video is a celebration of sex. The best part of the video is that Grande features some diversity across the couples in the music video, we are not given yet another heteronormative moment and see two women kissing throughout the visual piece.

20 No Tears Left to Cry

Enter into the upside-down world of “No Tears Left to Cry” and Grande is giving us a glowing, theatrical piece that is essential to the Sweetener era. As she dangles from fire escapes attached to towering skyscrapers and takes us through a kaleidoscope of her golden glossed lips, the music video demonstrates that the Ariana Grande we know and love is solidified in her signature looks and sound. Ponytail watch: Ari trades in her high-pony for an endless braid that is just as striking, plus she gives us the sliver-hued hair that is pivotal to the history of Sweetener.

21 The Light Is Coming featuring Nicki Minaj

In her third music video collaboration with Minaj, Ariana takes us through the swamps as she finally reaches the light that “the darkness stole.”

22 God Is a Woman

Actually yes, Ariana Grande is the center of our universe, and the “God Is a Woman” music video proves it, yuh yuh. Possibly one of her most technically intricate videos, Grande takes us through moments of angelic imagery and even sits atop the world with her stiletto coated feet in the clouds, as she proclaims, “when all is said and done you believe god is a woman.” The positively feminist piece of media is the most powerful, risky, and daring proclamations an artist has made in a song, and frankly, we believe. Plus, AG invokes Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam and replaces the white men with herself and women of color in the famed positions.

23 Breathin

A goddess with her head in the coulds, AG reminds us to breathe through it all. We have one word for this video: timeless.

24 thank u, next

Goodbye Pete, hello thank u, next. An iconic song must come with a video brimming with iconic references. Possibly more holy than Grande’s Michelangelo reference in “God Is a Woman,” the megastar cites moments from the pop culture canon that cannot be overlooked. The video which takes place at Los Angeles’ Hamilton High School, takes us through a typical high school world where the character’s from Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Bring It On and 13 Going on 30 all coexists in Grande’s cinematic fantasy land. And yes, Kris Jenner’s appearance with a camcorder is not only essential but reminds us of Grande’s zany sense of humor.

25 7 Rings

Yet another reminder that Ariana may have invented girl power and along the way she thought to rhyme “sad bitch” with “savage.” Grande’s “7 Rings” brought us her beloved rhinestone-encrusted space buns and an unforgettable house party. The music video is one long “no boys allowed” juncture in time. Ponytail watch: Grande gives us her longest ponytail yet, as it sweeps down a set of stairs during one shot in the video. At this point in AG’s career, her ponytail has reached a symbolic status for all the Arianators out there and it should be insured.

26 break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored

The thank u, next era is how we finally got Arichella in 2019 aka the Coachella that Ariana Grande headlined. The album pinpoints a moment of ultimate power for Grande and each song on the record is one banger wrapped in emotion after another. "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored” is no exception. This video can be characterized by the shots of Grande lamenting on a balcony that overlooks the Hollywood Hills and by the hilarious Ari look-alike that Grande wants her love interest to break up with. Our favorite moment is when Ariana judgingly admires her look-alike’s ponytail.

27 MONOPOLY - Ariana Grande and Victoria Monét

Emojis, puffer coats, knee-high boots, and mentions of AG’s discography is pretty much a serve in our book. The collaboration between and Grande and 2020’s rising star Victoria Monét, who dropped her album Jaguar this year, is an essential anthem that has no time for f***ery. The video which pays homage to viral sensation and professional dancer, Donté Colley, even features Colley with some of his signature choreography and emoji bopping.

28 Boyfriend - Ariana Grande and Social House

The video where Grande and Social House come together feels like a follow up to "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored.” With Ari on the attack, it’s as if this is what she would have done to the “other girl” if she wasn’t on her best behavior. With a bow and arrow in hand and laser heart shooting chest, AG IS letting jealousy get the best of her.

29 Don't Call Me Angel - Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey

A true meeting of the minds. Ariana, Miley Cyrus, and Lana Del Rey bring a sense of angelic rebellious spirit to the promotional music video for the 2019 reboot of Charlie’s Angels.

30 Stuck with U - Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber

*Sigh* enter one of pop’s first music videos created completely with at-home footage due to the pandemic. The Ariana and Justin Bieber track aims to uplift spirits as we trudge through 2020. The silver lining of this music video is when Grande has her dog dance along to the song.

31 Rain On Me Lady Gaga featuring Ariana Grande

THE CULTURAL RESET WE ALL NEEDED, we repeat the cultural reset we all needed. The epic collaboration between Lady Gaga and Grande for Gaga’s sixth studio album was a sharp left turn in May of 2020 that reinvigorated pop music this year. The second music video to come out of the world of Chromatica not only serves as a historical pop psalm but also demonstrates one of the most formidable friendships cultivated between two female, global superstars. The age of LG and AG will prevail and the “Rain On Me” music video, which drenches us in futuristic pops of pink and purple, is here to forever epitomize the power that Gaga and Grande wield. Ponytail watch: with the strength of Lady Gaga and Ariana combined, Ari’s avant-garde pony is so mighty even Gaga’s hair is flowing.

32 positions

We have arrived into the age of sex at its sexiest. The video that allows us to imagine what it would be like if we could call Grande, “Madame President” is a diverse and immediate response to the societal unrest that has altered our future. Ari’s Positions is a body of work the explores the artist’s sexual expressions and desires without holding anything back. Along the way, Grande is giving us her classic tongue-in-cheek sense of humor, and turning the heat up 1000 degrees.

33 34+35

The most recent video in the AG canon hits us right on the nose with sexual innuendos, as Grande and her team of lab partners get scientific. The visual piece pulls in heavy 1960s references from Grande’s teased hair to her pink fuzzy slip. As she and the team hypothesize about the meaning of “34+35” they are also working to bring to life a human robo-girl, played by Grande herself. The campy music video is just a sample of what is to come from the era of Positions.
