The McDonalds breakfast menu is about to get a whole lot sweeter. After rumors began to circulate last month of a potential new item, McDonalds announced today the limited time option that will soon be added to breakfast menus nationwide. Bacon cheese fries aren’t the only new venture for the fast food giant, as starting February 20th McDonalds will now be serving “donut sticks.”
McDonalds made the announcement on their twitter page on Monday. In the tweet it read, “Roses are red, violets are blue, the rumors of Donut Sticks coming to @McDonalds are true!” The new item will be available in participating restaurants nationwide, beginning at the end of the month. Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s Vice President of Menu Innovation said, “We are proud of our breakfast offerings, and excited to share new Donut Sticks with our customers.”
The limited time option will be offered in two sizes. Customers can get a 6-pack of the cinnamon sugar covered, fried donut sticks, for $1.69, or can step it up to a 12 count for $3.29. Dunkin’ Donuts wasn’t too surprised with the new item, similar to their “donut fries.” A spokesperson for the company said, “We’re not surprised to see competitors imitate our success with Donut Fries given their popularity with customers, and we will continue to lead the way in introducing fun, unique, delicious items that bring smiles and keep people energized any time of day.”
Regardless of what competitors say, fans were thrilled at the news that had been rumored since last month. Some fans began to question what new item was coming, after several clues popped up. Once the news broke this morning, many fans went to social media to share in their excitement. One twitter user wrote, “How many of the new @McDonalds "Donut Sticks" should I swallow like an Advil for breakfast every single morning??”
The new McDonalds “donut sticks” will be available starting February 20th. It is unknown how long the promotion will last, but hopefully it is a big enough hit to become a menu mainstay. For now fans of McDonald’s breakfast will have to wait a few more weeks before getting to try the new item. Let’s hope it gets added to the all-day breakfast menu, for those of us who can’t make it to McDonalds that early in the morning.
