Simon Cowell is recovering from a surgery that lasted nearly six hours after breaking his back in an electric bike accident on Saturday, according to a new report.
The music mogul is recovering back at his home in Malibu where the accident occurred, a source told Page Six.
“It was a long surgery, they had to fuse his bones and implant a rod," the source told the outlet.
“But thank goodness he’s going to be okay and will have a few months of recovery,” the individual added.
The "America's Got Talent" and "American Idol" star broke his back on Saturday afternoon after falling off an electric bike, multiple outlets reported.
Cowell, 60, was rushed to the hospital for back surgery on Saturday night after the accident, which happened at his home in Malibu.
“Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery [Saturday] evening,” a rep for Cowell said on Saturday night.
“Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family,” the spokesperson added.
Cowell has been seen in recent months on bike rides with his wife Lauren, 43, and son Eric, 6.
But the lifestyle change has been long-term for Cowell.
Last year, he explained that he changed to an all-vegan diet and reduced his alcohol intake in pursuit of healthy living.
“I went to see this guy who's very well-known. And he said to me, after doing some blood work, 'You can't have red meat, dairy, sugar, bread or gluten,’” the music mogul said speaking to Extra last August. “I’m thinking, what about alcohol? That’s all I care about. And he said, ‘Maybe not quite as much as you had before.’”
