CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Better Business Bureau is warning that scam artists are pretending to be online retail giant Amazon in an attempt to steal your identity.

The consumer advocacy organization says people across the country are getting phone calls claiming that something is wrong with an Amazon order or delivery. Then they’ll ask for personal information, says Steve Bernas, president and CEO of the Chicago and Northern Illinois office of the BBB.

“Scammers build a file on you,” Bernas told WBBM Newsradio’s Craig Dellimore. “They’re building a profile on you in order to steal your credit.”

Bernas says never give financial or identity information to anyone who calls you out of the blue.

The latest scams against consumers is the topic of “At Issue,” which airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
