Woman arrested for sheltering abandoned pets from Florence


GOLDSBORO, NC (1010 WINS) -- A North Carolina woman who took in 27 animals abandoned during Hurricane Florence has been arrested.

Tammie Hedges, founder of Crazy's Claws N' Paws Animal Rescue has been charged with practicing veterinary medicine without a license. The animals were seized from her temporary shelter.

Hedges told the News-Argus of Goldsboro that she was just trying to help animals that were brought to her during the storm.

She's accused of administering amoxicillin and an antibiotic ointment to several animals who were sick. She's also charged with soliciting a donation of the prescription painkiller tramadol.
