2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: Everything You Need to Know

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is almost underway. The show features 16 huge character balloons, lavish floats, bands and performances.  

This year, the parade is expected to have 8,000 participants, 3.5 million spectators from across the globe and over 50 million viewers. 

The parade, will begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon on Thursday. 

Performers from different genres participate in the parade. Fans can can watch Celine Dion, K-pop group NCT 127, to Latin superstar Ozuna.

PARADE ROUTE:

The kickoff takes place on West 77th Street and Central Park West and ends in front of Macy’s Herald Square.

Early risers camp out starting at 6 a.m. on the west side of Central Park West from West 75th to West 59th Streets and great views can be found along this stretch.

The parade then heads south onto 6th Avenue and viewers can watch from West 59th to West 38th Streets.

Avoid watching on 6th Avenue between West 34th and West 38th Streets and also  on West 34th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues due to limited viewing because od the national television broadcasts.

The Parade makes its final turn & stops in front of Macy’s Herald Square, where there is no public viewing in the telecast area on 6th Avenue from West 34th to West 38th Streets, and on West 34th Street between Broadway and 7th Avenue.

PARADE STREET CLOSURES

There will be many street closures in anticipation of the volume of guests set to attend the parade. The Department of Transportation listed the street closures for the parade.

Street Closures (beginning noon on Wendesday Nov. 27)

  • Central Park West from West 73rd to 85th streets
  • West 74th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West 
  • West 75th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 76th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 77th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 78th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 80th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 81st Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 82nd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 83rd Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 84th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • West 85th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park West
  • Central Park Transverse Road at Central Park West and West 81 Street
  • 81st Street and 77th Street from Central Park West to Columbus Avenue and Central Park West will be closed from 59th to 86th streets, as of 10 p.m.

  • 34th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues

 

Streets closures between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.:

  • Sixth Avenue between West 33rd and West 59th streets
  • Eighth Avenue between West 57th and West 59th streets
  • Eighth Avenue between West 33rd and West 40th streets
  • Broadway between 59th and 57th streets
  • Broadway between West 34th and West 40th streets (only escorted deliveries)
  • 42nd Street between Fifth and Eighth avenues
  • 57th Street between Fifth and Eighth avenues

  • Broadway between West 34th and West 40th streets (midnight to 1 p.m.)
  • Sixth Avenue between West 23rd and West 42nd streets (2 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

  • 59th Street westbound between Fifth Avenue and Central Park West (2 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • 35th Street between Fifth and Eighth avenues (2 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
  • 36th Street between Sixth and Eighth avenues (2 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • 37th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue (4 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • 38th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue (4 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
  • Eighth Avenue between 34th and 40th streets (4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
  • Broadway between 38th and 59th streets (4 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
