These students are bringing the past into the present by posing for incredible photos.

Terrance Sims’ sixth graders are honoring prominent black authors from Michelle Obama to Malcolm X and artists like Alicia Keys and Notorious B.I.G. by recreating their album and book covers.

Brooklyn Jones said she was inspired by Michelle Obama’s “Becoming,” and it made her want to do more to help her Milwaukee community.

Sims says he hopes this project helps his students connect with their culture and also find more of a love for learning.
