PHILADELPHIA (94 WIP) --- The Philadelphia Flyers have cut ties with Kate Smith and covered up her statue outside of the Wells Fargo Center following the discovery of the famed singer's use of racist lyrics.

The Flyers released the following statement: "We have recently become aware that several songs performed by Kate Smith contain offensive lyrics that do not reflect our values as an organization. As we continue to look into this serious matter, we are removing Kate Smith's recording of 'God Bless America' from our library and covering up the statue that stands outside of our arena."

Smith, who died in 1986, recorded racist songs unearthed this week by the New York Daily News.

The New York Yankees, who used Kate Smith's recording of "God Bless America" in the middle of the seventh inning, also cut ties with her.
