The worst fears for the Atlanta Braves have come true after watching pitcher Mike Soroka leave the field under assistance after falling while trying to make a move toward first base.
Manager Brian Snitker confirmed after the Braves' 7-2 loss to the Mets that Soroka's right Achilles was torn and he'd miss the rest if the 2020 season.
Mike Soroka, who began the 2020 MLB season with two winless starts despite a dazzling 1.59 ERA, landed awkwardly on his right leg after jolting off the mound to cover first base against the Mets.
Snitker didn't have all the information. No timetable is known, yet. The Braves' manager didn't know if it was a full tear or a partial, only that Soroka's season was over.
Braves Insider Joe Patrick looked at a few options the Braves could examine to fill Soroka's role at the top of Atlanta's rotation.
