Brian Cashman received a reminder Friday of the pressure that's on him to sign free agent pitcher Gerrit Cole.
While rappelling from the 22-story One Landmark building in Stamford, Connecticut -- something he does each year to help usher in the holidays -- the Yankees general manager saw a note posted in a 15th-floor window that read, in large, bold print, "Please sign Gerrit Cole," he told Newsday's Tim Healey. Cashman said he's trying to do just that.
The Yankees have made signing the free agent pitcher their top priority this offseason and owner Hal Steinbrenner has signed off on offering the right-hander a record-setting deal, ESPN reported.
Friday's rappelling was just a practice run. Cashman, Santa Claus and others will do it again at 5 p.m. Sunday. Afterward, Santa will head over to Latham Park to enjoy some caroling and the lighting of the tree.
