DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Out of nowhere Tuesday, the Dallas Stars announced that they have fired head coach Jim Montgomery. Rick Bowness will take over in the interim.

"The Dallas Stars expect all of our employees to act with integrity and exhibit professional behavior while working for and representing our organization. This decision was made due to unprofessional conduct inconsistent with the core values and beliefs of the Dallas Stars and the National Hockey League," general manager Jim Nill said in a statement Tuesday.

According to 105.3 The Fan's Jonathan Shipman, the players love Montgomery and the reason for his firing isn't performance-related, as the Stars indicated in their statement.

I think I know what’s going on with Monty but I’m going to let the Stars address it. No benefit in me putting it out there. I know this much though - the guys in the room LOVE Monty. This isn’t performance-related. This is off-the-ice behavior

Montgomery led the Stars to the second round of the NHL playoffs in his first year as the club's head coach last season. The Stars currently sit in the first wild card position with 37 points.
