FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOX) — Ferguson Mayor James Knowles describes the tactics used by violent protestors this weekend "like running football plays."
He told Charlie Brennan and Amy Marxkors this morning their first act was to smash windows in the police department, then scatter officers by exploding fireworks near them.
"Then they immediately rushed the line and they went with bats and broke windows, then retreated. Then they took those same fireworks and they spent the whole night shooting them across the street, trying to hit those (window) holes so they can get those fireworks in the building, explode, and ignite a fire."
He says these types of attacks "are nothing like we've seen before."
Knowles says nine protesters were arrested Sunday night, six by St. Louis County Police and three by Ferguson Police.
One thing that has helped he says, are the photos and video bystanders have posted online. Knowles says officers have been able to identify some of the troublemakers through social media content.
"We actually have names and ID's of some of these people and I assure you justice will be brought to their front door," Knowles says.
