Janoris Jenkins' empty apology was apparently the last straw.
The Giants on Friday waived the Pro Bowl cornerback. The move came two days after Jenkins called a fan a "retard" on Twitter.
Jenkins apologized Thursday morning, but admitted that he was only apologizing because of the reaction to what he did, saying he “really didn’t see nothing so bad with it."
"Obviously, what happened this week, and the refusal to acknowledge the inappropriate and offensive language, was the determining factor," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said.
Jenkins took to Twitter again after his release to write: Best news ever.. Thank you."
In 13 games this season, Jenkins had four interceptions and 54 tackles.
