Pandemic Turning Some Locations Into 'Zoom Towns'

By NewsRadio 1080 KRLD

PLANO (1080 KRLD)- Want to live and work in your favorite vacation spot?  Thanks to work-from-home technology, some Americans are finding out they can do just that.

As more employees adjust to the new way of doing business during the ongoing pandemic, they have discovered it is possible to do their jobs from just about anywhere, thanks to video conferencing technology.

As a result, popular leisure spots like Lake Tahoe and Aspen are drawing people who have decided to move in and stay for a while. In Truckee, Calif., near Lake Tahoe, home sales are up 23% over a year ago.

Plano-based Realtor Lance Taylor says similar trends have surfaced in North Texas.  Residents who are no longer locked into a daily trip to the office in Dallas or Fort Worth are relocating to area lake communities like Ray Roberts and Cedar Creek.  Others are packing up and heading down to the Texas coast.  Taylor discussed the "Zoom Towns" trend.
