The Bird is the word in Texas, because Greg is back.

The Texas Rangers added Greg Bird to their 30-man roster on Friday, ostensibly to replace Ronald Guzman, whom the Rangers optioned to their alternate site earlier this week.

Bird, 27, signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers last winter after being non-tendered by the Yankees. He burst onto the scene for the Bombers in August 2015, hitting .261 with 11 homers and 31 RBI in 46 games down the stretch, but injuries have limited him to 140 games over the last four seasons; he missed all of 2016 recovering from shoulder surgery, and then played 48 in 2017 and 82 in 2018 before just 10 last season, all due to a series of lower-leg issues.

For his career, Bird has slashed .211/.301/.424 with 32 homers and 98 RBI in 186 games.
