Cleveland, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Ohio State defensive end Chase Young will not play Saturday against Maryland while the university investigates a potential 2018 NCAA violation the school announced Friday morning.

The announcement came following a report from LettermanRow.com that Young faces an indefinite suspension from the NCAA over an alleged violation.

“Ohio State’s Chase Young will not play in this Saturday’s game between the Buckeyes and the Maryland Terrapins due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into,” the statement from Ohio State said.

Young also released his own statement, via Twitter, explaining that the issue involves a loan he accepted from a family friend.

Young, who has vaulted himself into the Heisman race, is just one sack shy of breaking Ohio State’s single season record but that is now on hold.

Young is ranked as the No. 1 NFL Draft prospect on ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr.'s Big Board and was projected as the third overall pick in a recent RADIO.COM mock draft.

Earlier this week the Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season, and they are No. 3 in the Associated Press poll behind LSU and Alabama, who play Saturday afternoon.
