(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two volunteers from PAWS Chicago are on their way to the Gulf Coast to bring back dogs and cats affected by Hurricane Laura.
The van’s destination is McComb, Mississippi, which did not bear the worst of the storm compared to towns southwest of there.
PAWS Spokesperson Julia Poukatch on Friday said five Gulf Coast rescue organizations will meet the Chicago van in McComb with dogs and cats from shelters that received storm damage from Laura.
“We are expecting over two dozen: about 10 dogs and many more cats,” Poukatch said.
PAWS volunteers are taking supplies to the shelters down there that suffered wind damage and power outages.
The dogs and cats are expected to arrive in Chicago at the PAWS Medical Center on Sunday.
Most are expected to be ready for adoption in the next couple of weeks.
