According to Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman, multiple NFL assistant coaches and team executives are very bullish on the Chiefs' chances against the 49ers in Miami.
Here’s how Freeman, the longtime football scribe, put it:
“In asking a handful of people around the league who they believe will win Super Bowl LIV, what has surprised me — actually stunned me — is how many are confident the Chiefs will blow out the 49ers.”
“Three assistant coaches and two front office executives with whom B/R spoke all picked the Chiefs, big, and I don't think this belief is isolated.”
Freeman goes on to explain that this position is built on twin foundations. One, respect for the acumen of Andy Reid, the Kansas City head coach.
Oh, and that super-talented Patrick Mahomes guy.
"There is no defense against Mahomes right now," one NFC assistant coach said. Not even the 49ers, argue the coaches and team execs. To them, no player — at any position — is playing better than Mahomes.”
The 49ers defense has, for what it’s worth, been impeccable, putting Kirk Cousins and the Vikings to the sword (and to shame) and then clamping down on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
Mahomes’ playoff two-game playoff run, admittedly, has been wild. In the divisional round, Mahomes and the Chiefs dug out a 24-0 grave against the Texans, to crack their skulls, 51-31.
He threw five TDs.
Then, in the AFC Championship against the Titans, Mahomes aired out three more touchdowns. His TD to INT ratio is 8-0 and his passing rating, per ESPN, is 131.5.
